WHO AM I?
My name is Stephen.
I was born in Melbourne, Australia, and moved to Christchurch, New Zealand as a young teenager. I’m of Māori and Scottish heritage, and I now live in Germany with my family while pursuing my dream of writing, illustrating, and self-publishing my own comics. Somewhere in the middle of all that, I’m also trying to build a balanced life as a modern creator.
WHAT IS ABROKENSLEEP.COM?
A Broken Sleep is my independent creative studio for dark atmospheric comics, lighthearted slice-of-life artwork, and expanding fictional worlds. Depending on how you look at it, the name can hint at nightmares, broken dreams, or simply the reality of not getting much sleep when you have kids, make art, and keep chasing stories.
WHERE IS THIS GOING?
A Broken Sleep currently includes two separate comic projects, with more planned for the future:
· The Core Series: A dark, high-contrast atmospheric fantasy series built around mystery, deep lore, and psychological storytelling.
·Papa’s Coffee: A separate lighthearted slice-of-life comic strip series about parenting, creativity, coffee, and everyday chaos.
These projects show two different sides of my work: the darker, lore-heavy worlds I love building, and the lighter everyday moments that come from family life, creativity, and coffee. As A Broken Sleep grows, I plan to add more series and creative experiments under the same independent studio banner.
